06/29/2006Â Cultivating Your Root of Virtue
Recommended for Advanced Students
Everyone has a seed of promise bestowed by the Buddha so they may grow into a complete and perfected being. This root of virtue is where your good fortune comes from day in and day out, so it must be kept healthy and strong.
Domo Geshe Rinpoche distinguishes between ordinary, worldly, outer, contaminated, dogmatic virtue, versus REAL virtue, which comes from the Inner Guru who has the ability to make high discernments and discriminations. Authentic virtue comes from the Buddha, who bestows sentient beings with the root of virtue, a blessed process which allows sentient beings to grow on the interior to the enlightened state. Virtue is connected to the perfected state. From the seed of virtue which is implanted in you, you will be drawn to and resonate with things that draw you toward enlightenment. The perfected state is called Buddha. You do not own the root of virtue, but are an experiencer and receiver of the bestowal of true virtue from the Buddha.
